The Difference
We have taken what we’ve learned from our work with micarta over the past 10 years and sought to design a lightweight stock that delivers the deadened shooting characteristic of our micarta stocks in a system that is light enough for the backcountry.
Our Hybrid line combines three unique materials to provide the user with a shooting experience found in no other rifle stock. We did this by combining our micarta material, along with carbon fiber and aramid fiber (commonly known as Kevlar®), in a patented molding process.
We started with the heart of the stock, the inlet area for both the action and the bottom metal. The micarta bedding block allows us to machine the precise inlets and seating surface we are known for, along with the advantage of having the recoil lug seated against a wall of micarta. We chemically bond this to a light weight, closed cell foam to provide the “core” of the stock, which is then wrapped in layers of aramid and carbon fiber.
The benefits of carbon fiber in rifle stocks are widely known. Carbon fiber is extremely strong and stiff, and by interweaving aramid fibers with carbon fibers, we increase both the strength and durability of our stocks.
An additional benefit of aramid’s structure is its ability to distribute impact energy over a large area, “blunting” and reducing the intensity of the force that has been acted upon the stock. This works in conjunction with the micarta heart to produce the shooting experience Foundation Stocks are known for.
Combine this with an extremely repeatable molding and inletting process and the Foundation Hybrid is born!
